Potty Mouth

Most young and growing kids have a hard time pronouncing words right? I think it's so cute to hear little kids develop their own vocabulary and it's fun to understand what they're saying in their own little mispronounced language. And don't we as parents kinda hold on to that cute speech for as long as we can, sometimes even enable it, just because it's so darn cute!? Well, I am no exception to that, and my kids have certainly had their share of cute kiddy language. Haily had a hard time saying her "C's" and "K's" until she was almost 5, so we would have her say "Cookies" which came out as "Tooties!" and so forth. Cute, right? Ben currently has a problem saying his "CH's" so words like "cheese and chips" are "Seese and Sips!" And Sips are Ben's favorite food in the whole world. We're working on his pronunciation now that he's getting closer to Kindergarten, but still cute while it lasted.
And then there's Luke...poor kid...he has a problem pronouncing most words, which I guess is pretty normal for a 2 year old who didn't start talking until he turned 2! Up until recently, the only vocabulary he had was "mama, dada, and spongebob!" Sad, I know. Well now he's a talking machine, which is awesome, except for some of his favorite words come out sounding like curse words! At first it was pretty funny, quite the novelty, and we've had him mispronounce just about EVERY word out there for our own amusement, but now...it's pretty embarrassing. Especially when he's yelling for a TRUCK in Nursery today and his "TR" is pronounced "F!" Yeah...Kinda awkward. I was like "um...sorry??" Lol. And the saddest part is he's totally in LOVE with trucks, so it's a very common word in our home. I'm trying really hard to teach him, I promise, but how much can a 2 year old pick up on speech?? So besides "TR" being "F", oddly enough his "F's" (like Fish for example) is sometimes pronounced as "B"...we learned that from our trip to Kansas for the 4th when we were fishing, and Luke kept saying "Fish Please!" Grandparents thought that was a hoot. Oh, he loves his shapes too, however "square" is pronounced "queer". Unfortunately, these are pretty common words that get innocently repeated a lot by him and it was not very cute for very long! So I apologize to anyone in advanced, especially in Nursery today AGAIN! I try really hard not to have him say those words in public, especially at church. (:
On a lighter note, he does have some really cute words that are not so foul...my favorites are "Boo-nana and Mooo-cycle!" Luke LOVES him some bananas and motorcycles! Has anyone else ever had such a speech "problem" with their kids like my son?? I would feel a lot better to know that I'm not alone...and not EVERYONE is laughing at my child when he swears, innocently.

Oh that is too funny!! I know, we keep thinking the same thing. How we shouldn't laugh but it's so cute that you do. Cracks me up with the trucks though!! hehe.

So many people go through that. My brother (Steven Stokes) did when he was little. My sisters always told us about his "Fire**cks" and his "knife, spoon and "f$@~"

My favorite was a little girl I babysat for awhile. She would sing, "Follow the Prophet" at the top of her little lungs and with all of her heart. Except her "ph" was an "sh" sound. We all got a kick out of that one.
